Hacking, crashed websites and lost data seems to happen more often during the busy holiday season. This is of particular concern to ecommerce companies and brick-and-mortar retailers, but hacking, theft and data loss can happen to any company. SecureWorks, a Security as a Service (SaaS) provider reported a 161% increase in hacker attacks blocked for their retail clients in November 2008. http://www.darkreading.com/security/news/212201959/secureworks-reports-1… Today, although computer security has gotten more advanced, hackers have also gotten more savvy to keep up. Now is the time to put measures into place to protect your computer from a DOS (Denial-of-Service) attack, viruses, trojans or worse. Here are some of the basic steps you can take: 1 – Meet with your IT department to make…
Solid State Drives are hailed as being more reliable and more durable than regular electromechanical hard drives. But what happens if your SSD actually breaks? Can you repair it yourself? First, let’s look at what could happen to an SSD that may require repair. What if your SSD has somehow suffered physical damage? It’s entirely possible that a professional SSD data recovery firm can repair your SSD — or at least perform a successful SSD data recovery to recover the information on the drive. It depends on a few factors. – If all the individual NAND flash chips work, SSD data recovery may be possible. – If all the metadata on the SSD can be recovered, SSD data recovery may…
When you switch to a virtual server system, you can save your business time and money in a number of ways. Virtualization and Security Virtualization provides better business continuity because of the centrally located host server, which can be located off premises and protected from physical damage, including shock damage, fires, floods and theft There are also a number of other benefits to virtualization through VMWare or other virtual server solutions. Benefits of VMWare – Virtualization can increase your IT storage capabilities, speed, and performance without substantially increasing operating costs. – Virtualization makes it each to run Windows on a Mac, providing greater flexibility for applications across platforms – VMWare reduces costs with less hardware required, reducing utility, maintenance, management…
External hard drives are great for increasing the storage capacity of your laptop or desktop computer affordably, as an easy and inexpensive back-up solution, or for carrying important data with you on the road. But the features that make them so convenient also put them at risk of catastrophic data loss. External hard drives may suffer hard disk failure or damage that results in data loss and requires professional data recovery services due to: – Shock damage from being dropped or falling off a shelf – Shock damage caused by rough handling during travel – Power surges – Fires and floods Here are three easy ways to avoid the need for emergency data recovery and protect your external hard drive.…
On the heels of Seagate launching the GoFlex 4TB, the world’s first 4 TB hard drive, Hitachi has introduced a 4TB hard disk drive (HDD). The drives come as part of a dual drive RAID 0 external storage device, and is marketed as the G-RAID with Thunderbolt. The external RAID storage system includes a G-RAID external case that holds two 4 TB drives for a total capacity of 8 TB, and a Thunderbolt I/O port on the outside of the case. Hitachi is also planning: – a single drive 4 TB G-Drive with Thunderbolt – G-RAID and G-Drive models with eSATA, FireWire 800, and USB 2.0 ports The new G-RAID with Thunderbolt is compatible out of the box with Mac…
If you’ve been following this blog, you know that the data recovery experts here at 24 Hour Data are strong proponents of data back-up. We’re here when you need us. We live to save companies and provide individuals with greater peace-of-mind by offering data recovery with fair pricing and a 99% success rate. But when it comes down to it, we wouldn’t mind doing other things. We wouldn’t mind seeing a world where data back-ups were always 100% and no one ever needed data recovery. But that’s just not realistic. (And that’s why we’re happy to be here!) Even if you perform back-ups in triplicate, with one copy of your data stored remotely in the cloud so you can access…
It was interesting to run across this articlehttp://www.tomshardware.com/news/IDC-HDD-SSD,5527.html from a technology blogger back in 2008. The IDC predicted that 3 TB hard disk drives (HDDs) will be available by 2012. ::checks desktop calendar:: Technology, at least as far as hard drive storage capacity is concerned, is advancing faster than most people dreamed. When you consider that it was just 4 short decades ago that computers took up an entire room, it’s practically mind-boggling that you can now carry hundreds — or even thousands — of photos on a flash drive no larger than your thumb. (Hence, the term thumb drive). But back to hard drives. In early 2011, 3 TB hard drives had already come to market, although they were…
Hard drive manufacturing giant Seagate recently purchased the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and data storage division of Samsung Electronics in a $1.375 billion deal. The companies are calling the agreement a “broad strategic alignment” http://www.isuppli.com/Memory-and-Storage/News/Pages/Seagate-to-Control-… and it actually has several facets. Under the agreement: – Samsung combines its hard drive manufacturing operations with Seagate – Seagate acquires Samsung’s NAND technology, for use in the compnay’s SSDs and hybrid hard drives – Seagate will provide drives for Samsung PCs, notebook computers and consumer electronics devices – Seagate will pay for the acquisition with 50% cash and 50% in stock, giving Samsung 9.6% ownership of Seagate The deal gives Seagate 40% of the world’s market share for hard disk drives, keeping the…
Throughout the year, the number of hacker attacks and network scans on businesses increase, coming to a peak in November — just in time for Black Friday for e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retailers and at the height of busy season for a number of other businesses, as well. Hacker attacks can result in a loss of security, as well as viruses that cause corrupt files and a loss-of-data, requiring emergency data recovery. 1 – Update your anti-virus software to prevent your system from new threats. This should go without saying but, especially in organizations with a small IT staff or no IT staff (and definitely in the case of individuals) we often neglect this easy, inexpensive yet crucial first step to…
Hard disk drive manufacturer Seagate recently was the first in the industry to announce the introduction of a 4 TB capacity Hard Disk Drive (HDD.) The move was not a complete surprise to those in the industry, since at the CE-Bit show this spring, Samsung showcased the technology that would make 4 TB hard drives possible, revealing a new 2 TB drive that fit 1TB of storage capacity on a single platter. The demo was misrepresented by some technology bloggers as an actual 4 TB hard drive, a rumor that Samsung representatives quickly put to rest. Then, just about a month later, Seagate purchased Samsung’s hard drive storage division in what the company’s called, in a press release, a “broad…
