Storage Visions 2012, an Entertainment Storage Alliance Event, will take place just prior to the International CES. The Storage Visions show will be held at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas January 8 – 9, one day before CES begins at the Las Vegas Convention Center. While CES showcases all consumer electronics trends and products, Storage Visions is devoted to exploring the new technology and challenges faced by the storage media industry. The theme of this year’s event is Heavy Storage for Thin Clients, and focuses on cloud-based storage vs. local storage as well as cost-effective solutions for storage of the massive amounts of content created by businesses and consumers today. The conference will explore how digital content will be…
Have you ever lost the cap to a USB or thumb drive and then needed data recovery when sensitive components got bent or damaged? USB drive manufacturers EMTEC and Dane-elec may have the solution to data loss caused by a damaged USB drive with clickable and cap-less USB flash drives. EMTEC C600 and C650 Flash Drives EMTEC C600 and C650 flash drives “click” open like a ballpoint pen, so there’s no cap to lose. The C650 offers USB 3.0 performance for applications where fast data transfer is a must. It’s available in storage capacities from 8 to 64GB. The C600 is a USB 2.0 version of the same concept, with storage capacities up to 16GB. EMTEC will be showcasing the…
Photographers and flash memory cards go hand-in-hand. Professional photographers — especially wedding, event and family photographers — carry extensive insurance to cover data recovery costs or, worst case, data loss, if something should happen to their flash memory cards and the irreplaceable photo memories stored on them. Duracell gets in on the flash memory game with a special line of flash memory cards designed with pro photographers in mind. The Pro Photo line of Compact Flash (CF) and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) cards work fast to complement the performance of today’s professional and pro-sumer DSLR cameras. The SDHC cards transfer image files directly from camera to card for fast operation. The CF cards read up to 90 MB per…
Several different types of RAID arrays exist. If you are new to RAID technology, setting up a RAID server in your home or for your small business, or have just never encountered RAID before, the different levels can be confusing. Two common terms used in RAID arrays are “mirroring” and “striping.” What do they mean? Striping In RAID Arrays When you use striping to write data to the hard disk drives in a RAID array, you divide the data (in stripes) across the various drives. A RAID 0 array uses two or more hard drives and stripes data across all drives. This provides the greatest performance and efficiency. The smaller the stripes, the faster the array. However, many experts say…
Today’s storage environments, including RAID arrays, VMware, virtual servers and solid state drives (SSDs) are complex, and data recovery often requires more than a do-it-yourself solution. When people call us here at 24 Hour Data, they often have concerns that our data recovery services will be expensive. It’s true that data recovery — depending on the storage media — sometimes costs more than the cost of the storage device (especially if you are talking about a smaller capacity hard disk drive or even a USB drive or flash memory card.) But when you are recovering lost data, it is not the cost of the storage media that is of concern — it’s the overall value of the data. Worth More…
Virtualization, the process where a server is set up to act as multiple servers for storage purposes, is a growing trend in the IT world. Data recovery of virtualware (VMWare) and virtualized servers requires specialized knowledge of both data recovery and virtualization processes. Data recovery of a virtual server should not be attempted by anyone but data recovery specialists, to avoid the potential of losing mission critical data. However, virtualizing data storage has many benefits that can save your company time and money. 1. Increase storage capacity for less money, without investing in larger or additional hard drives. RAID arrays that utilize mirroring for redundancy sacrifice at least 50 percent of their storage space. Creating a virtual server increases storage…
Hard disk drive and SSD manufacturer Seagate is being recognized as an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for the company’s GoFlex Satellite wireless mobile storage. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=goflex-satellite… This industry-first portable hard drive for mobile devices, including smartphones, iPads and other tablets extends the storage capacity of mobile devices without drawing any power from the device. The GoFlex Satellite uses a rechargeable lithium polymer battery and WiFi technology to seamlessly stream media — including photos and video — from an Internet enabled mobile device to the hard drive. The GoFlex hard drive connects to mobile devices via the free GoFlex Media app available through iTunes or the Android market, or via a Web browser. The drive holds more…
If you’re familiar with RAID arrays, you know that they can be more stable and also faster and more efficient than other hard disk drive or server technologies. But each level of RAID array provides different levels of stability for your system. For instance, RAID 0, often considered not to be a true RAID array since it lacks redundancy, may put your mission critical data at risk. Because RAID 0 arrays use striping to increase efficiency and read/write speeds by spreading data bytes across a number of hard disk drives, if one drive in the RAID array fails, you risk losing all your data and requiring emergency data recovery services. A RAID 1 array, on the other hand, is extremely…
Samsung Solid State Drives http://www.albawaba.com/business/pr/samsung-electronics-honored-30-ces-2… were voted amongst the most innovative new products this year in the CES Innovation Awards. The Samsung 830 Series solid state drives (SSDs) raise the bar for performance and reliability, reading and writing data up to twice as fast as previous generations of SSDs. These internal drives have a SATA 6Gb/s data interface. Samsung 830 Series SSDs have sequential read speeds up to 520MB/sec, according to manufacturer specs, and random read speeds up to 80,000 IOPS. Solid state drives are quieter and more energy efficient than hard disk drive technology and, as prices drop and storage capacities rise, are becoming the storage media of choice for many applications. Samsung 830 Series SSDs are available in…
In some circles, RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks, referring to the fact that, if one drive in a RAID array fails, providing the array uses mirroring rather than data striping, it can be pulled out and replaced without affecting the entire array. In other words, the disks operate independently. But when RAID arrays first came into being, the acronym stood for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. Using multiple smaller hard drives was (and is) much cheaper than using one larger hard drive or server for data storage. Due to advances in technology and changes in the data storage industry — namely, consolidation and cheap competition amongst the top companies — hard disk drive prices continue dropping. Affordable…
WOW... fantastic customer experience! Submitted a totally dead 1TB drive for recovery yesterday now its fully recovered before noon the next day! Exceptional customer service, and impeccable reputation. Thank you 24 Hour Data, ever so much for getting my valuable data recovered and back to me. Very reasonable rates. My hat goes off to the BEST data recovery service in Dallas or in the country for that matter! You will not be disappointed using their services....
